Working meetings in Coimbra before opening the EUG2018 registration

The Organising Committee of the European Universities Games Coimbra 2018 (EUG2018) hosted EUSA delegation for a series of working meetings between December 3 and 5, 2017. The aim of the meetings was to finalise the arrangements before opening the registration on December 15.

European University Sports Association (EUSA) was represented by its Vice-President and Chair of the Supervision Commission Mr Haris Pavletic, Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik, Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti, Communications & Projects Manager Mr Andrej Pisl and Education & Development Manager Ms Sara Rozman.

Working sessions with the Organising Committee

On behalf of the Organising Committee the delegation was received by Mr Mario Santos, EUG2018 Secretary General; Mr Daniel Monteiro, President of FADU; Ms Ana Fernandes, newly-elected Vice-President of AAC Academica, and the team from the Organising Committee.

Meeting at the City Hall

The working meetings focused on the topics of general organisation, as well as specific areas including accommodation, catering, transport, media and marketing, registration and accreditation, volunteers, sport, educational events and Rectors’ Conference, protocol and ceremonies, security and safety, and others.

Reception at the City Hall

Special reception and meeting was held at the City Hall of Coimbra where the representatives were welcomed by Mr Carlos Cidade, Deputy Mayor of Coimbra. Mr Ciadade reflected on the recent confirmation of the municipality budget set aside for the needs of the Games, and assured the support of the city in the organisation of the event.

Meeting with the Rector

The Rector of the University of Coimbra Mr Joao Gabriel Silva also met with the EUG2018 and EUSA delegation, expressing his enthusiasm over the upcoming European Universities Games. The University of Coimbra is one of the main partners of the event, and is fully committed to contribute to the successful organisation of the largest multi-sport event in Portugal. Apart of the sports events, the educational events were also discussed, and the Rectors’ Conference was especially highlighted.



The fourth edition of the European Universities Games will be held in 2018 between July 13 and 28 in Coimbra, Portugal. The event is featuring 13 sports: Basketball, 3x3 Basketball, Badminton, Canoe Sprint, Football, Futsal, Handball, Judo, Rowing, Rugby 7s, Table Tennis, Tennis and Volleyball. All sports will be open for men and women, and in Table Tennis also competition for students with disabilities will be organised as an integral part of the event. Registration and detailed information will be available as of December 15, 2017. University teams and athletes should contact their national university sports bodies in Europe for possibilities to register.
