Green Sports Hub Europe (GSHE) is a European initiative, focusing on encouraging a more sustainable approach in sport. Several resources are being developed within the project, and project partners met online in January, finalising two of them – which will be soon publicly available.

The consortium already has two resources available – the state of play: Mapping of Existing Initiatives and Survey Report on Existing Barriers. Two capacity building tools are about to be launched in February: Green Sports Self-Assessment Tool, and Green Sport Playbook.



The Green Sports Self-Assessment Tool will enable sport organisations to understand the impact of their events and activities. Six topics have been identified for the tool: Event Management, Natural Environment, Facilities, Resources Management, Governance, Host/Venue Selection. The tool will make respondents aware of their current status and help them on the road to greener sport, providing some advice and good practice examples. Additional resources are still to come.



GSHE project is co-funded by the Erasmus+ Programme of the European Union, is led by Surfrider Foundation Europe (FRA), with project partners including Association of Cities and Regions for the Sustainable Management of Resources - ACR (BEL), Sports Confederation of Portugal (POR), UKActive (GBR), Green Cycling Norway (NOR), Olympic Committee of Slovenia (SLO), European Volleyball Confederation (LUX), Rugby Europe (FRA), European Athletics Association (SUI) and the EUSA Institute (SLO).



The project is also supported by external expert organisations Team Planet and Burson Cohn & Wolfe - BCW, with the HUB Associate Partners. These are currently: European Olympic Committees - EOC, European branch of the International Basketball Federation - FIBA Europe, Association For International Sport for All - TAFISA, Italian Football Federation - FIGC, National Olympic Committee of Serbia, Green Sports Alliance, Centre for Sport & Human Rights, Special Olympics, Budapest Association For International Sports - BAISF, City of Nantes, Cortina FIS Alpine World Ski Championships, GEO Foundation for Sustainable Golf, Youth section of the European Non-Governmental Sports Organisation - ENGSO Youth, and REEVE Eco Event Network.
