What's up: Introducing 2017 EUSA Student Commission

In this month's student column we would like to warmly welcome and introduce the four new Student Commission (STC) members within the European University Sports Association (EUSA): Esli (NED), Moritz (GER), Kevin (IRL) and Daniel (POR) - who joined the STC in December 2016 after Bella (GBR), Conor (IRL), Grisha (ARM) and Andrey (RUS) finished their mandate.

Besides the new members, the STC is composed of four other members who started their mandate in 2015: Anna (HUN), Kasia (POL), Nikola (CRO) and Seit (SLO). We are very thankful for the contribution of the members in the previous mandate(s) and we are looking forward to work together with the new members!

Daniel Monteiro (POR)

I am Daniel Monteiro, president of FADU – Portugal University Sports Association. FADU has been one of the most active national federations in EUSA in recent years, showing our total commitment to the European university sports movement and our commitment, not only in our country, but also in International participation and the promotion of international events. Through my participation in the National Council of Sport, we also have contributed over the years to increase the practice of sports in Portugal, being within the importance of this type of councils.
Integration to EUSA Student Commission was a huge challenge, taking into account not only the work I have been developing at the Portuguese sports movement, but also because of the genesis of the institution of which I am now president, FADU, whose structure is supported entirely by students. Always focusing on increasing the participation of athletes in university sports competitions, also through the promotion of informal sport as a regular practice for a healthy life in the higher education.
In this way, to integrate this Students Commission represents a renewal of this commitment, believing that, together with the other members of the Commission of Students I can contribute with more ideas to reinforce the role of European university sport and consequently, the European sports system.

Esli de Kok (NED)

I am Esli de Kok, 24 years old and I live in The Hague, The Netherlands. Since 2014 I have been working for the Dutch Student Federation Studentensport Nederland. Besides that I am doing my master Sportpolicy & Sport management in combination with an internship at NOC*NSF, which is the main organization for sports in the Netherlands.
Last summer I was the Head of Delegation at the EUG in Croatia, it was wonderful to see so many active students together from different cultures and countries. Next to that this event could not have taken place without the many volunteers. Something the student commission works really hard for and I do think this commission is an added value for EUSA.
Therefore I applied and I hope I can bring some added value to the organisation as well. At least I am really looking forward to work for the student commission the next two years!

Moritz Belmann (GER)

I am Moritz Belmann, 25 years old and from Germany. I study media development at the University of Applied Sciences Darmstadt. Before my master’s degree in media development, I studied sport journalism and sport marketing at the University of Applied Sciences Mittweida.  For two years, I worked in media department at German University Sport Association. During this time I’ve got in touch with the spirit of international university sport.
In the EUSA Student Commission I look forward to strengthen the participation of students in European university sport. The volunteer program at EUC and EUSA Games offers brilliant chances to get in touch with international sport men from whole Europe. Of course I want to support the communication and marketing of EUSA. Hence I look forward to tell stories about the power of European university sport and its diversity.
Naturally I’m in touch with sport daily, starting triathlon training in 2014. Therefore I practice to improve my performance in swimming, on bike and running every day. Sport shares values and connects people. Hence I look forward to follow the European university sport during my time in the EUSA Student Commission.

Kevin Ronan (IRL)
I am Kevin Ronan, and I am currently Vice Chairperson of Student Sport Ireland (SSI), a position I have held since February 2016. In this time I have represented the unique outlook of students throughout the country towards sports, and particularly participation in sport. During my time on the SSI board, the SSI strategic working group and has begun work on the formation of a student commission made up entirely of students from across the country with the support of the SSI office and board.
A graduate of Business Management in Tourism & Sport, I am in the process of completing a Masters of Business in Advanced Business with an expected dissertation completion date of August 2017. The dissertation title is: Third Level Funding: An inhibitor or enabler to accessing third level education.
As well as other positions, I am the current President of Athlone Institute of Technology Students’ Union, having been elected for three successive terms. I was successfully nominated to the European University Student Association (EUSA) Student Commission in December 2016, and I look forward to supporting the European university sport movement during my time in the EUSA Student Commission.
