This year in September, the EUSA Conference was held in Aveiro, Portugal. European University Sports Association took this chance to celebrate the 20th anniversary of EUSA, to host an extraordinary General Assembly and have an Awards Ceremony. Student representative David Storek from Germany recalls his experience of the events in Aveiro for this month's student column.

The two-day event started with round table discussions concerning different important topics for the present and the future like Good Governance and Gender Equality. Especially Gender Equality’s round table offered some inspiring content and stories of strong women, who have leadership experiences for many years. However, we as EUSA members, must improve, to support more women into leading positions and generating more of those positive examples. This should be a main goal for the following years.



Besides that, also more students should participate as opinion leaders in EUSA. Aren’t we the target group, the people university sport is made for? With an academic background, we are smart enough for participating in decision processes. Having some changes in EUSA statutes, which were made on the second day during the extraordinary General Assembly, members of the Student Commission having more power in Committees. This improvement is a good first step towards more participation.

Between and after two days full of interesting discussions, FADU and the organizers from Aveiro did a fabulous job! We got support from the first minute on (I’ve got two fellows for late night shopping on the first day, thanks to lost luggage), were invited to a fantastic gala and enjoyed delicious Portuguese food, muito obrigado!



It was my third seminar with EUSA and I hope it will increase. The exchange with many committed people from whole Europe gives the feeling about creating something great for European movement. It is inspiring, how encouraged even the representatives from countries with small budgets and huge challenges are, to build up a working system for European sports movement.

I am very thankful for the first twenty years of EUSA and I am definitely looking forward to the next twenty years.
