University sport still well-represented in Swiss Olympic Association
Following Swiss Olympic’s General Assembly last week, Swiss University Sports President Mr Mike Kurt was re-elected as an Executive Committee Member in the association’s Executive Council.
The 24th Sportparliament took place on Friday, November 20, with attendees gathering virtually due to the current COVID-19 pandemic.
Following the tallying of votes in the elections, current Swiss Olympic Association President Mr Jurg Stahl was unanimously re-elected as he maintained his position as head of the organisation.
And while three new Executive Council Members were elected, seven Executive Committee members were re-elected, including current Swiss University Sports President Mr Kurt.
Mr Kurt, a former canoeist and World University Championship competitor, has been president of Swiss University Sport since March 2018.
"It is a great honour for me to be able to continue my commitment to Swiss sport in all its breadth and especially to our athletes for the next four years on the Executive Board of Swiss Olympic. The innovative further development of Swiss sport and the strengthening of the Olympic movement are as close to my heart as the consolidation of the cornerstones of our sports system, such as volunteering or the diversity of our sports landscape," Mr Kurt said.
Mr Kurt's re-election to the position on the Swiss Olympic Executive Council, which he has kept for the last four years, ensures university sport in the country will still be represented at national level.
EUSA congratulates Mr Kurt on his re-election and wishes him well in his forthcoming tenure.
