University sport remains united
During the uncertain times following the current global COVID-19 Coronavirus outbreak, university sport federations across the world remain united.
Numerous sports competitions scheduled for spring at international, national and university level have been either cancelled or postponed as measures have been put in place to curb the spread of the virus, in accordance with the World Health Organisation recommendations and national governments’ instructions.
Amid this unprecedented situation, we at EUSA would like to extend our thoughts to all our members, partners, the athletes, coaches and staff, as well as their families and colleagues in these strange circumstances. We understand the challenges faced in various capacities across all sectors, and wish to reassure you that you have our unwavering support as we closely monitor the situation and try to adjust our operations to the best of our abilities.
As a continental association, we express our hope that you are well and that the situation will soon improve. In the meantime, we are taking the necessary precautions as set out by the WHO, European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control, as well as the national authorities, by working from home, conducting meetings online and doing all in our power to prepare for upcoming EUSA events.
We understand the severe impact this virus has made across the globe, and thank the many federations and organisations who have written to us in solidarity. We also stand united with the International University Sport Federation (FISU), encouraged by their message sent out by President Mr Oleg Matytsin:
While the situations remains critical over the vast majority of Europe, China – where the virus originated – is seeing a daily improvement where life is slowly returning to normal, and we were grateful to receive words of encouragement from the Federation of University Sports of China. In showing their solidarity with Europe, their message included these encouraging words: “Although facing the novel virus, we have the firm confidence that with global collaboration and joint endeavours within the community of shared destiny, the final victory will come in near future.”
We encourage the entire EUSA family to remain united in this difficult period and thank you all for your continued support, and look forward to reuniting again soon when the possibility allows.
