University sport media seminar in Poland

At the end of April a workshops for young journalists had been organized in Gdansk, POL by Akademicki Przeglad Sportowy (University Sport Review), a magazine of the University Sport Association (AZS).

16 journalists-beginners learnt about writing articles, preparing news under auspices of experts and more experienced colleagues. The leading subject was the information, but students had an opportunity to meet with prominent representatives of Polish sport and AZS.

Students described meetings with professional journalists as very educational. They were impressed by Jacek Glowczynski’s lecture. He prepares electronic version of the popular sport magazine “Sport review”. Journalists explained main differences between news in a newspaper and on the internet; mainly that the reader wants to find in the internet, first of all, pure information, not analysis or comments. So for journalist it is important to give fresh, unique information, to be the first in giving news.

Kajetan Broniewski

Kajetan Broniewski, rower, bronze medalist from Olympic Games in Barcelona 1992, was one of the sport representatives during the workshops. He told the students about his sport career, and what he did after finishing it. Young journalists were very curious about the backstage of the Olympic Games: they had many questions about the atmosphere in the Olympic village during the Games, and about the moment of winning an Olympic medal. They wanted to know his opinion about changes in organizing Olympic Games in recent years.

Another prominent person during the workshops was Janusz Rybicki, chairman of AZS Gdansk. He explained about his career in AZS, and underlined that membership in AZS is of precious value in one’s life. AZS is not just a sport, it is also a good fun, unforgettable experiences, and first of all, people and friendships, that can be fruitful for the future.
