A solemn ceremony celebrating university sport took part on October 4 at the National State University of Physical Culture and Sport in Kiev, Ukraine.

More than 500 people from all over Ukraine gathered in the university auditorium on the invitation of the President of Sports Students' Union of Ukraine, Rector of the NSUPCS, Mr Evhenij Imas, in order to celebrate achievements of Ukrainian student athletes at the stages of the 2019 Summer Universiade and the European Universities Championships.



In his opening  speech Mr Imas thanked all the athletes, coaches and other contributors to the development of university sport.



President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky specially awarded 40 athletes and coaches for their achievements during the FISU Summer Universiade in Naples. On his behalf, awards were presented by Mr Oleksy Dniprow, Head of the Presidential Administration.



Ukrainian Minister of Education and Science Ms Hanna Novosad congratulated all medallists of this year’s European Universities Championships. EUSA President Mr Adam Roczek also attended the ceremony. He congratulated students for their successes and thanked the Ukrainian Student Sport Union for their achievements and activities in the frame of EUSA.



Ukrainian students won 20 medals in Naples and 55 medals in the European Universities Championships, achieving the first place in EUSA medal classification for 2019.
