University Sport Association of Poland celebrates in Lublin
The annual Polish University Sports Gala was held in Lublin on October 21, awarding the achievements of student-athletes, universities and university sports clubs. It has been also a celebration of 100 years of AZS Lublin – local university sport association.
In 2022 over 70 Polish University Sport Championships took place and in Lublin, Rectors of the most successful academic institutions has been awarded. Many Rectors from Poland took part in the event, recognizing the importance of sport in the institutions of higher education. Similarly like in the past years, the Gdansk University of Technology was handed the title, with the University of Warsaw in second place and AGH University of Science and Technology taking third place.
Big part of the Gala has been the summary and celebration of polish student-athletes on the international level. Eleven of the medallists of World University Championship events received awards and additional prizes. One of the medallist in sport climbing is Aleksandra Kałucka, who is Polish, European and World University Gold-medallist. Altogether, polish student athletes won 40 medals in 2022 season of FISU’s World University Championships.
Special awards were also attributed: to Piotr Niewiadomski (coach), Agnieszka Kapusta (young leader), Piotr Chłystek (journalist). Moreover, AZS Lublin received a special fair play award for the support of Ukraine since the beginning of the war.
Another special award – “Sport event of 2022” has been European Universities Games in Lodz. Special recognition has been accepted by the Rector of Technology University of Lodz – Krzysztof Jóźwik, Coordinator of the event Dominik Leżański, TUL’s Sport Center’s Director Ewa Brochocka and University Sport Association representatives – Dariusz Piekut, Secretary General and Marianna Pikul, Volunteers Coordinator at EUG. The group has been joined by EUGenio – the event’s mascot.
The important role of the institutions supporting AZS throughout the year was also highlighted – especially the Ministry of Sport, Ministry of Science and Higher Education as well as the Main Sponsors – Orlen Group and PZU S.A.
