The 6th European Universities Tennis Championship concluded

Poznań was the host city of the 6th European University Tennis Championship held from July 26th to August 1st, 2009. The EUTC is a team event organized by the European University Sports Association and its participants are winners of the National Universities Championships from different European countries. This year 10 women’s teams and 12 men’s teams from 10 European countries took part in it. Among over 70 players there were several women and men with current ATP/WTA ranking.

The level of competition was very high and some matches were really spectacular. This was especially women semi-final match played by Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics (Russia) against Rouen University (France). The Russian player Maria Mokh (highest ATP/WTA ranking among the participants of PoznaÅ„ Championship) won after a good fight although she had a serious injury. Surprisingly the Russians were beaten in the final by the team from the Technical University of Ostrava (Czech Republic). Also men’s teams made good impression on the spectators gathered at the AZS PoznaÅ„ (PoznaÅ„ University Sports Association) tennis courts. Especially exciting was the final match between Rouen University (France) and Warsaw School of Social Psychology (Poland) won by the French team after a super tie-break. The result was hard to predict till the very last minute.

During the Closing Ceremony the special guests of the Organizing Committee, representing the authorities of the Poznań City and Region as well as the Polish Tennis Association, presented medals, cups, diplomas and other awards to the winners.
Nick Grivas, EUSA Tennis Technical Delegate said that this year’s European Universities Tennis Championship was very well organized by the Poznań University Sports Association and cordially thanked all members of the Organizing Committee and all students-volunteers engaged in the organization for their excellent job.
