Tennis and Volleyball finished with a blast

First part of European Universities Games is officially over, because all teams that we were seeing since the opening ceremony finished their competition and it is time for us to meet other athletes and other sports. Today we saw amazing sport and it is unfortunate it cannot last more and that we have to say goodbye to the tennis and volleyball players.

In tennis we got the new queens and kings of Coimbra and of University sport, University of Innsbruck in mens and University of Stirling womens competition.

Patrick Ofner and Michael Essl swiped their opponents from the University of Seville in the final match and won 2:0. How dominant they were in the finals can be described by a fact that they allowed their opponents only 4 games in the entire match. Them two along Matthias Raubinger are the new kings, University of Seville took the silver and last year winners from Camilo Jose Cela University had to satisfy with the bronze.

Maia Lumsden and Natasha Fourouclas proved tougher than their opponents from the University of Bordeaux winning in the final 2:0. Rerun of the last years final was exciting but at the end it was Stirling girls who had more luck and skill to win the gold, unlike last years competition. Third place again went to Istanbul Aydin University from Turkey.

Volleyball was highlight of the day because interest for the final matches was much bigger than the capacity of the the hall in the University sports complex and that is amazing news for the world of University sport. Students and locals were cheering for their teams and at the end only two could win.

In the womens competition University of Lausanne had what it takes to beat University of Belgrade and to take to gold back to Switzerland. The final result was 3:1 to University of Lausanne and an amazing ending of a wonderful tournament. Third place went to University of Rijeka, Croatia.

Men Volleyball final drew even more attention to the University sport complex and a long line was formed to see the best players at EUG 2018.

At the end, the team of Beykent University proved their dominance and won the game in straight sets. Team from Turkey played an amazing tournament and lost only one set on their way of winning the gold medal. University of Toulouse III – Paul Sabatier took the silver after a great tournament, while University of Nis had to satisfy with their third consecutive bronze medal.

MVP award went to Sarah van Rooij (University of Lausanne) and Murat Yenipazar (Beykent University) and Fair Play awards were won by University of Oslo (NOR) and University of Konstanz (GER).
