Teams set for the 3x3 FISU World University League 2016

Basketball 3x3 FISU World University League final will take place from 21 to 23 October, 2016 in Xiamen (CHN) and all the teams are now officially known. Following the success of the inaugural edition last year, the tournament has grown to accommodate more teams and better represent how 3x3 Basketball is progressing within the university sport movement.

In total, 32 teams from five continents will compete to win the 2016 edition of the FISU 3x3 World University League. The 16 male and 16 female teams come from 23 different countries, with 30 universities represented and will this year again fight for the men’s and women’s titles, including the individual shoot-out (women) and dunk (men) contests.

FISU World University 3x3 Basketball League

In both the men’s and women’s competition, 10 teams qualified for the final via continental Qualifying Tournaments held in Johannesburg (RSA) for Africa, Macau (MAC) for Asia, Zagreb-Rijeka (CRO) for Europe and Gold Coast (AUS) and Hamilton (NZL) for Oceania. Additionally, four wild cards were attributed per tournament and invitations to the 2015 winners and the host country.

European Universities Games in Zagreb and Rijeka served as qualifiers for European university teams; with the University of Kragujevac (SRB) and University of Split (CRO) in Men's and the Lithuanian Sports University (LTU) and University of Ljubljana (SLO) in Women's category.
