Team event concluded at EUC Badminton
The 8th European Universities Badminton Championship, hosted by the National Technical University “Kharkov Polytechnical Institute” and the Sports Students' Union of Ukraine, is taking place from the 21st to the 25th of June in Kharkov, Ukraine.
On Tuesday and Wednesday 15 Universities from all over Europe competed in the team event. Unfortunately the team event had some late withdrawals from regular participants from the United Kingdom and Poland. Therefore the organizing Kharkov Polytechnical Institute, where most players of the Ukrainian national team study and train, and the University of Vladivostok seemed to be tournament favourites in the team event.
The team event was played in four round robin groups with 3 or 4 teams, followed by a knockout stage. The first two teams of each group advanced to the knockout stage for the medals, the last two teams played a consolidation event for the places 9 to 15.
In the finals, the University of Vladivostok with their matchups Dremin / Dimova and Grachev managed to win the first two matches. Ulitina won the Women’s Singles and brought back some hope to the home spectators. These hopes were crushed by the solid Men’s Doubles performance of Dremin / Grachev. After their, win the Russian delegation enthusiastically celebrated their team title.

The Individual Event is taking place from Thursday till Saturday. All events will be played in single knockout system. The finals will be played on Saturday.
