Table Tennis concludes at the EUGames
The last Sunday of July was also the last days of competition in Table Tennis during the European Universities Games Rotterdam 2014. The last matches on the schedule were the competitions in singles categories in Table Tennis; all-together this competition attracted 36 university teams from 18 countries in men’s and women’s teams, doubles and singles.
 
The title of the European Champions in Table Tennis for men’s team went to the Russian State University for the Humanties (RUS), beating the team from the University of Zagreb (CRO) 3:0 in the finals. The third place was shared by University of Bochum (GER) and Rzesow University of Technology (POL).

In women’s team competition, the gold medals and the title of the Champions were won by the Institute of Economics Management and Law Kazan (RUS) over the Kozminski University (POL) 3:1, while bronze medals were won by the Russian State University for the Humanities (RUS) and Vilnius University (LTU).

Champions in doubles are Bingran Ren & Dominka Dabrowska from the University of Warsaw (POL) in women's, and Christopher Doran & Sean Cullen from the Nottingham Trent University (GBR) in men's competition. Yvonne Kaiser from the University of Hannover (GER) is the women's champion in singles, while in men's category the title belongs to Piotr Chmiel from the Rzeszow University of Technology (POL).

While the heat in the futsal, handball and tennis qualifications is rising, on the educational field the participants had the chance to discuss the topic of city marketing through sports. The masterclass was moderated by Mr Neal Petersen, sports entrepreneur, and the presenters were Mr Hans de Oudendammer, Director of Rotterdam Topsport; Mr Nikola Vincetic from the European Universities Games Zagreb-Rijeka 2016 and Mr Ricardo Morgado, presenting the European Universities Games Coimbra 2018.

Participants of the workshop were first introduced with the impressive policy of the City of Rotterdam, to build its image (also) as a sports city, followed by the plans of the next organisers of the Games in 2016 and 2018. The discussions focused on sustainability of the events, the legacy and needs of comprehensive planning and cross-sector cooperation. Tomorrow's theme of the seminar will be youth employability in and through sports.

Athletes, officials, staff and volunteers who make the EUGames 2014 possible also have a chance to enjoy the fun programme, with impressive bobsled track and evening concerts and parties.
