Swiss University Sports days 2015 in Magglingen

The sport teachers and trainers of the university sports organisations in Switzerland were invited to the Federal Institute of Sports in Magglingen for their annual three-day conference. Mr Marcel Meier, Head of sports at Bern University of Applied Sciences offered a wide variety of themes in continuing education such as diagnostics in sport performance, training in high altitude and adaption, high level sport and studies, riding the third wave, video feedback, regeneration in sport, sport nutrition and many others. The 40 participants from all the Swiss Universities and Universities of Applied Sciences had also the possibility to practise sports, e.g. archery, beach volleyball, tennis, football, golf and canoeing on the lake of Biel.

Mr Walter Mengisen, Rector at the Federal Institute of Sports, University of Applied Sciences Magglingen, informed the participants of the conference in a plenary session about the actual situation in Sport Switzerland, the initiative related to sport projects in the Swiss Parliament and the plans for development of sport in the country in the different fields in the near future.

Andreas Csonka, SUSF President

Mr Andreas Csonka, President of the Swiss University Sports Federation (SHSV/SUSF) and Reto Zimmermann, President of the Swiss Universities Sports Directors Conference gave an overview on the projects in the Swiss University Sport, among them the participation at the EUSA and FISU events, the organisation of such events in Switzerland, e.g. the European Universities Table Tennis Championship 2015 in Geneva and the European Universities Golf Championship 2015 in St. Gallen, the World University Triathlon Championship 2016 in Nyon and the possible candidature of Lucerne-Central Switzerland for the Winter Universiade 2021.

Mr Zimmermann explained the work in progress for a new strategy of Swiss University Sports. Additionally the participants were informed about the upcoming Summer Universiade in Gwangju, Korea by Mr Renato Maggi, Head of delegation,  the ongoing project 'High level sport and studies', which is progressing well under the leadership of Mrs Marilen Matter Graf, in close cooperation with Swiss Olympics and about ENAS by Mr Thomas Moergeli. Enough time was also given to social activities and the possibility of exchange of experiences and ideas among the University Sports Teachers of all the members of the SHSV/SUSF.

The term of the presidency in the Director's Conference of Mr Reto Zimmermann came to an end. The new President is Mr Patrick Udvardi from Lucerne, and the new Vice-President Mr Pierre Pfefferle from Lausanne.  The Swiss University Sports days 2016 will be held at Bern University from June 6-8, 2016.
