SUSA reviews 2014 activities and plans for 2015

The Board of the Slovenian University Sports Association (SUSA) held its regular meeting in January in Ljubljana. The Board evaluated the programme implemented in 2014, general plan for 2015 and confirmed the delegation members of the 27th Winter Universiade.

On national level, SUSA organized ten national university championships in 2014 in basketball, basketball 3x3, beach volleyball, volleyball, futsal, shooting, orienteering, chess, golf, skiing and snowboarding.

SUSA was also successful at elections of the new Board of the National Olympic Committee in Slovenia. SUSA President prof. dr. Milan Žvan was elected as the Executive Committee Member of the NOC. The new President of Slovenian Olympic Committee Mr Bogdan Gabrovec expressed his commitment to give more support to university sport in this mandate.

On continental level, on the European Universities Games 2014, SUSA and its members were represented in football, tennis and table tennis sports, with 31 student athletes, representing University of Ljubljana.

On international level, SUSA was able to facilitate presence of Slovenian athletes at 11 World University Championships in 2014 or at 41% of all WUC performed in the past year. 41 Slovene student athletes participated at WUC karate, golf, archery, beach volleyball, orienteering, chess, squash, basketball 3x3, shooting, bridge and weightlifting.

At the 2015 Winter Universiade, 18 student athletes are representing 6 universities and higher education institutes in Slovenia are competing in 5 sports. SUSA will also participate in this year’s Summer Universiade and their students will attend several European Universities Championships in 2015, one of which is also being organised in Koper, Slovenia – the European Universities Basketball Championship.
