Supervision Commission meets in Belgrade

The Serbian capital city Belgrade played host to a two-day Supervision Commission Meeting ahead of this year’s European Universities Games, with preparations for the event well on track.

Present at the meeting on behalf of EUSA was Vice President and Supervision Commission Chair Mr Kemal Tamer; Vice President Mr Haris Pavletic; Executive Committee Member Mr Milan Zvan; Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik; Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti; Education Manager Ms Sara Rozman and Communication and Project Manager Mr Andrej Pisl.

All meeting attendees were welcomed by EUG2020 Executive Committee Chair Mr Darko Glavas, EUG2020 Director Mr Predrag Juskovic and his team, represented by the heads of all 14 departments making up the Organising Committee.

Points of discussion in the meeting covered all organisational departments, including project management, sport and sport venues, accommodation and catering, transport, security, protocol for the opening and closing ceremonies, international relations, marketing and public relations, media operations, volunteers, educational activities, IT and accreditations as well as medical matters.

In light of the corona virus threat, it was discussed additional measures will be taken in terms of the safety and well-being of all participants, with organisers monitoring the situation while working closely with authorities.

As part of the meeting, an inspection visit to the student campus where participants will be accommodated was made. Renovations to the buildings are ongoing, with the student-housing set to leave a positive legacy from the event, with all rooms enjoying a refurbishment while also being installed with air conditioning and wi-fi access points available across the campus.

It was also announced at the meeting that the official mascot for EUG2020 will be revealed in mid-March.

Overall, there were numerous positive findings by the Supervision Commission, who noted the good progress made by the Organising Committee with preparations for the Games going according to plan.

The next meeting in Belgrade will see the EUSA Executive Committee gather in the Serbian capital at the start of April, ahead of the NUSA Coordination meeting, taking place from May 8-9.
