Summer Universiade 2009: update

The Summer Universiade 2009 will be organised in Belgrade from July 1-12, 2009. The preparations for the  biggest world event in 2009 are in full swing. On September 4th, the Serbian Minister of Youth and Sport Mrs. Snezana Samardzic Markovic visited the FISU Headquarters in Brussels, Belgium. She met with FISU Secretary-General Eric Saintrond and a number of key staff working on the 2009 Summer Universiade.

Mr. Saintrond showed the Minister around the FISU Manor and afterwards, a meeting was held. In the meeting Mr. Saintrond expressed his concern for the deadline put forward for the readiness of all venues for the 2009 Summer Universiade in Belgrade as only some 300 days are left before the Opening Ceremony. The Minister confirmed the full support of the Serbian and Belgrade municipal government to be ready for the games. ‘The Universiade is an important event for Serbia', Minister Samardzic Markovic said. ‘We are investing a lot in venues and accommodation as we strongly believe in a legacy for the city which will improve life for its citizens.'
