Successful SELL Games 2022

The 37th edition of the SELL Games was hosted by the city of Riga in Latvia from 20-22 May. The event was attended by over 1200 participants, coming from 5 countries, competing in 14 sports.

Three days full of teamwork, competition spirit, sports matches and fun took places in various sports venues in and out of Riga.

The event was opened with a welcoming ceremony at the Rimi Olympic center. The Opening Ceremony was attended by the President of the Latvian University Sports Federation (LUSF) Ms Agita Abele, Vice-President of the International University Sports Federation (FISU) Mr Marian Dymalski, 1st Vice President of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) Mr Haris Pavletic, as well as representatives of student sports from four founding countries - Finland, Estonia, Lithuania, Latvia, and other guests.

Students competed in 14 different disciplines – 3x3 basketball, 7x7 football, athletics, badminton, basketball, beach volleyball, chess, floorball, orienteering, powerlifting, swimming, table tennis and volleyball.

At this edition of the SELL games, held after the Covid-19 break, 29 universities took part in the competitions, having Latvia with the highest number of universities 12, Lithuania with 8, Estonia with 5, Finland with 3 and 1 from Slovakia.

The total medal tally of the 37th SELL Student Sport Games was dominated by Lithuania with 161 medals, (67 gold, 47 silver, 47 bronze), following with Latvia - 101 (25 gold, 32 silver, 44 bronze), Estonia - 18 (3 gold, 9 silver, 6 bronze), Finland - 4 (3 gold, 1 silver) and Slovakia with 1 silver medal.

The universities with the highest numbers of medals on this year’s SELL games were Lithuanian Sports University with 43 medals, on the second spot there was Riga Technical University with 40 medals and the third place was taken by the Vilnius University with 39 medals in total.

On the 22 of May the SELL games were officially closed and the next years hosting honour was given to Tartu, the second biggest city in Estonia.
SELL Games are organised by the national university sports associations in 4 founding countries, and held under the Patronage of EUSA and FISU.
