Successful maiden EUC Beach Handball draws to a close
The first and historical European Universities Beach Handball Championship 2019 ended in a thrilling Closing Ceremony following an entertaining final day near Jarun Lake in Zagreb, Croatia on July 27.
Almost 150 participants representing 16 Universities from eight countries took part in this year’s edition of the event, the first in EUSA’s history.
After a challenging yet action-packed three days of competition, all the competition’s medallists were finalised as they were duly awarded their prizes.
In the women’s competition, Spain’s University of Barcelona emerged victorious after their 2-1 victory over University of Novi Sad from Serbia in the final.
Home team University of Zagreb had plenty of support en route to the final of the men’s category, where they made their home advantage count to topple University of Belgrade in the final and claim the gold medal.

Mr Ronald Štrumberger, Executive Director of the competition, addressed all the participants, volunteers and organisers at the Closing Ceremony and thanked them all for a beautiful four days, all their efforts and the great cooperation by everyone involved. SCAC Chair Mr Wolf Frühauf then exchanged a token of appreciation and plaque with the Organising Committee and Mr Ole Jorstad, Chairman of the EHF Beach Handball Commission, for their assistance in the organisation of the event.
The 2021 European Universities Beach Handball Championship will be combined with the Beach Volleyball event, which will take place in Malaga, Spain.
