Successful first edition of the European Week of Winter Sport

Within the European Week of Winter Sport (EWWS) project, co-funded by the European Union, this year the pilot edition of the week was held in Europe between February 1-8, and showed great interest from the participants!
It was initially planned to have a few local events in the 8 participating countries (Belgium, Bulgaria, Croatia, Germany, Italy, Luxembourg, Slovenia and Spain), the numbers start growing, and the project partners exceeded the initial plan showing great interest in winter sport. The focus were activities on snow and ice, also noting the sustainability aspects. As the reports from the activities implemented within the European Week of Winter Sport are still coming in, a detailed overview will soon be available on the project website. What we can share are some of the activities carried out in Slovenia by EUSA and its Institute, targeting university students and staff.
Following the online webinar on European Week of Winter Sport and university sport winter events on February 6, an ice-skating activity was organised at the Tivoli Ice-Skating Rink in Ljubljana on the same day. Together with the University of Ljubljana, a training course in cross-country skiing was held at the Planica center near Kranjska Gora on February 8.
Kickstarting alongside EWWS on February 1st, 2025, we opened an exciting contest inviting participants to create and share short promotional videos that highlight the themes of sustainability, local tourism, and community engagement in winter sports. The contest ends on February 28th, 2025. Top 5 Best Promotional Videos will be selected from short, captivating videos submitted that highlights sustainable winter sports, local tourism, or community involvement. Winners will gain visibility across our platforms, receive awards, and help promote sustainable winter sports across Europe, and the main prize is a Go Pro.
The general objective of the European Week of Winter Sport project is to encourage participation in sport and physical activity also and especially during the winter season, while raising awareness about climate change and promote sustainability. EUSA Institute is one of the official partners of the project.
Under the umbrelal of EUSA, also the second edition of the Euroepan Universities Winter Sports Championships will be organised end of this year in the Dolomites in Val di Zoldo, Italy.
