Successful BUCS Conference 2014

The BUCS Conference 2014 was hosted by the Swansea University between July 8 and 11. The event was officially endorsed by the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and the European Network of Academic Sport Services (ENAS). Over 400 participants took part in the conference; mainly representing their Universities, local, national and international university sports bodies.

 

The theme of the conference was ‘University Sport and the World Stage’ and the sub themes include topics like Hosting major sporting events and teams (National & International), Developing a world-class infrastructure (Coaches, Volunteers, Facilities & Services) and The global market place (Recruitment, Employability, Research).

The conference kicked off by welcome addresses by Mr Ed Smith, BUCS Chairman, his last time after six very successful years at the helm of the organisation, and Mrs Karen Rothery, BUCS Chief Executive. They also gave an introduction of the event, keynote speakers and structure of participants.


Exhibition
 

The programme of the conference included plenary sessions for more general topics and several workshops for more detailed discussions of certain issues. The conference also included social activities, sports programme and a special fair – an exhibition opportunity for the partners and sponsors to introduce themselves.

From the BUCS Awards event
 

An important event, held within the conference was the special BUCS awards, honouring the best in the university sport for the current season. 

 

European University Sports Association was represented at the Conference by Mr Bruno Barracosa, Executive Committee member and Chair of the Student Commission. He presented EUSA, its programme and activities one of the workshop during the event. Special emphasis was given on the sports programme of the European Universities Championships and European Universities Games, social responsibilities projects and educational events.
