Successful 4 Healthy Academic Society Conference 2024
Besides sports, the UniSport Finals also organized the international scientific conference "4 Healthy Academic Society" for the second year in a row, focusing on topics of physical and mental health and health-oriented physical exercise. The conference was held for two days, on the 31st of May and 1st of June.
The 4 Healthy Academic Society International Conference focused on various aspects related to sports practice and the promotion of a healthy and active lifestyle, divided into three main sessions: health and healthy lifestyle, anthropometric characteristics related to physical activity, mental health of athletes and technological innovations in sports practice.
The Conference program began on Friday morning 31st, opened by an inspiring presentation from Prof. Alessandro Bortolotti of the University of Bologna, about the role of communication in playing and sporting activities. Scientific papers and contributions from academics and technical experts were presented within the program, addressing topics such as innovations in sports technology, injuries in sports, dual careers, psychological and sociological aspects of student sports, sustainable sports programs and many other current topics related to students and sports.
The program then continued on Saturday, June 1, 2024, opened by the intervention of Fernando Parente from FISU. Mr. Parente provided an extensive overview of FISU's multi-year strategy to enhance its social relevance and growth. He highlighted that significant gaps still exist within the structure of international university sports, particularly between the continental and local levels. The objective of FISU's Global Strategy 2027 is to bridge these gaps, starting with the student and national levels. FISU believes that strong universities are the foundation for robust National University Sports Federations (NUSFs).
Mr. Parente emphasized that FISU's primary focus is on strengthening its base by supporting universities in enhancing their offerings for students. This is the first pillar of FISU's strategy for the coming years, with a particular emphasis on improving university sports services. The main goal is to bridge the gap between NUSFs and universities, as well as between universities and their student communities. Additionally, the concept and early results of the Healthy Campus program, a FISU initiative designed to assist and motivate universities to enhance their activities. This program aims to better meet the needs of student communities through tailored interventions specific to each university. “Our long term goal - he concluded - is to have a better picture of our system where all stakeholders at different levels of our community can mutually connect easier without major gaps between each other”.
Within the events, a round table entitled "Sports at public higher education institutions, YES or NO?" was also organized by the Croatian Academic Sports Federation, with the participation of panelists from Croatian state institutions and higher education institutions to discuss the current issues related to academic sports and sports in general in Croatia.
Organizers and competitors spent three unforgettable days, and this year's edition of the Unisport Finals demonstrated once again that sport strongly intertwines issues related to education, recreation, entertainment and socialization. Occasions like these are proof of this and constitute exceptional networking platforms for the development of further similar initiatives.
