Sports Fair in Belgrade presents European Universities Games 2020

The 2017 Sports Fair entitled Serbia – Country of Sport was organized in Belgrade between November 24 and 26 at the Belgrade Fair. One of the main highlights of the fair was the presentation of the European Universities Games Belgrade 2020, attended by the highest authorities of the Serbian sport including the Minister of Youth and Sport, Mr Vanja Udovicic, as well as representatives of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and University Sport Federation of Serbia (USSS).

The presentation was held on the opening day on November 24 and started with the welcome speech by the Minister of Youth and Sport, who welcomed EUSA representatives and other authorities and congratulated USSS and the University of Belgrade on the work done so far and highlighted the importance of this event for Serbia and Belgrade. He underlined that this event will showcase the Serbian capacity to stage Major sport events and Serbian hospitality when more than 6000 participants arrive to Belgrade for the Games in 2020.

EUG2020 presentation

EUSA was represented by its President Mr Adam Roczek, Vice-President Mr Haris Pavletic, Secretary General Mr Matjaz Pecovnik and Sports Manager Mr Besim Aliti. EUSA President Mr Roczek thanked the attendees and congratulated the Host City Partners for the work and commitment. Mr Pecovnik presented EUSA and its history and emphasized the role its Serbian member has played in helping the European entity grow and develop. In addition, the sports program, as well as other EUSA activities were presented, and it was announced that the final sports program for EUG 2020 will be confirmed during the next EUSA Executive Committee Meeting, held in March 2018 in Paris.

Delegation

Mr Sinisa Jasnic, the President of USSS and EUG2020, together with Ms Ivanka Popovic, Vice Rector of the University of Belgrade, presented the EUG 2020 project to the public with the special emphasize on the legacy project which should be achieved by building the new University Sports Centre in Belgrade. In the end, a great news was confirmed announcing the official collaboration between EUG 2020 and Toyota, which starts in 2017 and continues until the conclusion of the Games in 2020.

Friendly #beactive competitions

Representatives of EUSA and EUG2020 also enjoyed sporting activities during the Fair, including friendly #beactive 3x3 Basketball and Tennis matches, using two of the sports on the EUSA programme.
