Special meeting with Commissioner Navracsics on youth sport

At the beginning of the European Youth Week, which is currently taking place throughout Europe, European Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport Mr Tibor Navracsics met on May 2 in Brussels representatives of youth sport organisations, who presented the outcomes of the European Youth Sport Forum 2017 and officially handed over the Pink Paper recommendations.

Youth sport delegation was lead by the President of the Youth section of the European Non-Governmental Sport Organisation (ENGSO Youth) Mr Paolo Adami, who thanked the Commissioner for the meeting and the European Commission for the support of the European Youth Sport Forum 2017, hosted between March 10 and 13 by SportMalta as part of the Maltese Presidency of the Council of Europe. The delegation was composed also by representatives of key organisations who are active in the field of youth sport, and attended the Forum in Malta: the European Non-Governmental Sport Organisation (ENGSO) – Ms Heidi Pekkola, European University Sports Association (EUSA) – Mr Andrej Pisl, and International School Sport Federation (ISF) – Mr Francesco Fiorini.

Presentation of the EYSF and Pink Paper

Outcomes of the European Youth Sport Forum were the Pink Paper recommendations, developed by 120 young leaders, participants of the event. The recommendations and actions the 2017 Pink Paper addresses are on the topics of social inclusion and volunteering, healthy lifestyle, and sport diplomacy. These topics were formally identified as the key priorities in the frame of the Maltese presidency.



Commissioner Navracsics, accompanied by Head of Sport Unit of the European Commission Mr Yves Le Lostecque, Policy Officer Ms Paola Ottonello and Member of Cabinet Mr Szabolcs Horvath, welcomed the engagement and initiatives presented. The organisations were invited to join further discussions and encouraged to remain active and contribute to implement the European policies, especially in the field of youth and sport.

European Youth Week

Marked by the 30th anniversary of Erasmus, the European Youth Week is this year held under the slogan “Shape it, move it, be it” between May 1 and 7, covering hundreds of events across Europe to inform young people about youth  policy making opportunities and various EU mobility opportunities, highlighting their rich contribution to Europe's challenges such as solidarity, inclusion, democracy and active citizenship.
