SOLA Relay 2014 attracts over 900 teams

Both the organisers and the 12.500 runners were more than happy with the ideal weather conditions during the 41st edition of the traditional SOLA relay on May 17 in Zurich. 902 relay teams with 14 runners each early in the morning covering over 116 km of the relay race.

 

The fact that again the maximum of allowed teams were registered underlined the popularity of the biggest university sport event in Switzerland, organized by the Academic Sports Association Zurich and supported by the Swiss University Sports Federation (SHSV) and other partners. The winning team "Die Brownschen Spaziergänger XXS" crossed the finish line after 6:54:20 hours and with a bit less than one minute in front of the second team. The winning team repeated its victory from 2013, winning the so called "Dala Horse", symbol of the SOLA Relay.

Like every year many well-known personalities from the Federal Institute of Technology Zurich as well as from the University of Zurich took part also this time, such as Lino Guzzella, Rector of the ETH Zurich, Thomas Tschümperlin, Head of the Rector's services of the Uni Zurich and Roger Meier, Director of Administration of the Pedagogical University Zurich. At the finish line all the runners of the 14th and last part of the really were warmly welcomed by 'Cooly', the mascot of the European Athletics Championships which will be held in Zurich in August 2014.

The SOLA Relay is a competition which pays a lot of attention to the sustainability and protection of the environment. Since 2010 every team pays a certain amount and supports with this donation a special project related to the protection of the environment. Also the ASVZ as organisers contributes to this project.
