SLO: National University Championships
Slovenian University Sports Association (SUSA) organised in cooperation with its member organisations the Slovenian Festival of Student Sport on Friday, May 29 in Maribor. The festival encompasses national university championships in volleyball, basketball, futsal, tennis, table tennis and badminton; in combination with social activities and entertainment.
There were about 150 students present at the opening ceremony, where they were welcomed by the President of SUSA, prof. dr. Otmar Kugovnik, who congratulated them in combining sport with their studies and wished them best of luck in both for their future. The Vice-Mayor of Maribor, Mr Andrej Verlic, also attended the event, wishing the participants good luck and fair matches. At the closing ceremony, the President of the Maribor University Sport Federation Mr Marjan Pucnik congratulated the winners and awarded them medals and trophies.
With the Festival of Student Sport, the majority of national university sports in Slovenia have concluded for 2009. Beside the sports featured in the Festival, SUSA also organises championships in shooting, orienteering, rowing, beach volleyball, golf, Alpine skiing and snowboarding.
