Seminar on the European Week of Sport Beyond Borders 2021
On April 19, the European Commission hosted the Seminar on the European Week of Sport Beyond Borders. The event took place online, and focused on the European Week of Sport and the #beactive campaign also outside the borders of the European Union.
Special emphasis was given on the engagement of young people in sport, physical activity and healthy lifestyle.
In the introduction, the opening and welcome words were given by Ms Mariya Gabriel, EU Commissioner for Innovation, Research, Culture, Education and Youth and Mr Tiago Brandão Rodrigues, Minister of Education in Portugal before the keynote speech was given by Mr Sergey Bubka, President of the Ukrainian National Olympic Committee.
In the constructive dialogue with young nominees, young people, many of them current and former athletes from Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Georgia, Kosovo, Moldova, Montenegro and Ukraine, shared their perspectives and ideas about engagement of young people in sport and healthy lifestyle.
The main panel discussion focused on the same topic - How to attract young people to practice sport and adopt healthy lifestyles in the "new normal". Moderated by Ms Suyin Aerts, the inputs were given by Mr Juraj Horzic (Petra Preradovica Primary School, Winner 2020 #BeActive Education Awards), Ms Claudia Bokel (President of the German Fencing Federation and Permanent Advisor to the Dutch Sports Council), Ms Gabriella Bascelli (Project Manager, European Multisport Club Association) and Mr Luka Zivic (Counsellor for Education, Youth and Sport, Permanent Representation of Slovenia to the EU).
