SELL Games 2024 successfully concluded

One of the largest sports events for students in the Baltic States – the 39th SELL Student Games was held between 16-19 of May, hosted by  the Lithuanian Students' Sports Association in the city of Kaunas. 

SELL Student Games is a multi-sport event that is open for all university and college students all over the world, organized under the patronage of EUSA and FISU. The name of the games are according to the first letters of the hosting countries, Finland, Estonia, Latvia and Lithuania in their respective languages. 

Over 1300 participants from 10 countries, representing 28 nationalities and 38 universities, gathered in Kaunas, Lithuania, for the 2024 SELL Student Games. The event, spanning three days, showcased an impressive array of athletic talent and fellowship, making it a memorable occasion for all involved. Athletes competed in a variety of sports, demonstrating exceptional skill and sportsmanship, while also fostering international friendship and cooperation.

The opening ceremony was a grand affair, featuring speeches from distinguished guests. EUSA President Mr. Adam Roczek highlighted the importance of such events in promoting unity and athletic excellence, while Vice-Minister of the Ministry of Education, Science and Sports, Mrs. Aiste Zedelyte-Kaminske, emphasized the role of sports in education and personal development. LSSA President Mrs. Indre Celkiene warmly welcomed the participants and expressed her pride in hosting such a prestigious event in Lithuania.

At this years SELL GAMES, student-athletes had the opportunity to compete in: basketball, 3x3 basketball, mini football, volleyball, swimming, powerlifting, orienteering, table tennis, badminton, beach volleyball, sports climbing, judo, athletics, chess and roundnet.

The universities with the highest numbers of medals on this year’s SELL games were Vytautas Magnus University with 52 medals, followed by Lithuanian Sports University with 46 medals and Vilnius University on the third position with 43 medals in total. 

The closing ceremony was equally magnificent, with His Majesty The President, Mr. Valdas Adamkus, presenting the trophy to the captains of the SELL Student Games 2024.

This momentous occasion celebrated not only the athletic achievements of the participants but also the spirit of unity and collaboration that the games embodied. The event was a testament to the power of sports in bringing together diverse cultures and fostering a sense of global community.

SELL Games are organised by the national university sports associations in 4 founding countries and held under the Patronage of EUSA and FISU. At the closing ceremony the flag was handed out to Mr Mio Kortelainen, President of the Finnish Student Sports Federation as the next hosts of the SELL Games 2025.
