Sailing opens competitions in Portugal

This weekend, October 27 and 28th, Lisbon held the official start of the competition season with first Portuguese University Championship of the 2012/2013 calendar. More than fifty participants brightened the Tejo River, in the Sailing Grand Surprise championship, which presented great conditions for the conduct of the competition. 

 

The Instituto Superior Técnico Student’s Union won the first gold medal attributed this season, but several medals will come. Last year, more than 8.000 student’s athletes participate in 80 national and 33 regional competitions, representing 96 different clubs. After a great year of university sports, 197 titles were awarded in 35 sports.

In the next months these numbers will certainly have a growth, since FADU planned several new sports for its 2012/13 calendar, such as Horse Riding, Padel, Snowboarding, Kickboxing and Mountain Biking. This shows the continued commitment of FADU in opening space to newer sports.

 

Also qualifying tournaments will have their beginning in 12th of November, in Basketball, Football, Futsal, Handball, Rugby 7s and Volleyball. The winners will meet with the other regional winning teams, in the Portuguese Finals in April 2013, in the city of Covilhã, hosted by University of Beira Interior Student’s Union.

The city of Guimarães, European City of Sports 2013, will receive the Portuguese University Championships on individual sports, such as Athletics, Chess, Karate, Squash, Taekwondo, Tennis, Table Tennis and others, held by University of Minho Student’s Union.
