Russian Sports Forum recognises importance of University sport

The 5th International Sports Forum “Russia – Country of Sports” opened on October 9 in Cheboksary in Russian Federation. The Forum was attended also by a high delegation from the International University Sports Federation (FISU), with its President Mr Claude-Louis Gallien, FISU 1st Vice-President and President of the Russian Students Sport Union (RSSU) Mr Oleg Matytsin and FISU Secretary General Mr Eric Saintrond.

The Plenary Meeting of the Forum was opened by the Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Vitaly Mutko, and also the President of the Russian Federation Mr Vladimir Putin adddressed the audience during the Forum. The presentations on different topics were given by prominent figures of the sports world. FISU President Claude-Louis Gallien also made a presentation on the role of the students sport movement in modern society.

After the Plenary Meeting, FISU President Gallien was invited to the meeting with Mr Putin and the heads of international sports organizations. The meeting was attended by Russian high authorities, including the Deputy Prime Minister Arkady Dvorkovich, Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation Vitaly Mutko, as well as RSSU President Oleg Matytsin and the IOC members from the Russian Federation.

At the occasion of the meeting, FISU President Gallien received the Order of Friendship by Mr Putin, for the great contribution to the development of the university sports in Russia and worldwide.

Signing of the agreement

Signing Ceremony of the Confirmation Agreement between FISU and the 2019 WU Krasnoyarsk Executive Directorate was held just prior to the Forum, at the International Exhibition showing “Modern Sport. Innovations. Perspectives”. At the 2019 WU Krasnoyarsk stand the FISU leaders were welcomed by volunteers and the Universiade mascot U-Laika.
