Roffa rocks Rotterdam
During the Generation Games, that were part of the Erasmus Campus Festival in Rotterdam on Saturday, May 24, the mascot of the European Universities Games 2014 was officcially presented. In two months almost 3000 students are coming to Rotterdam to participate in the EUGames 2014, the biggest multi-sport student event from Europe.
Roffa, the name of the mascot, is a proud lion and has a student looks. The name was chosen by the participants; Roffa was by far the most popular name out of three proposals, published on the event’s Facebook page. ‘We are very happy with our Roffa, a cool, international, appealing name which matches with our athletes and the city. Besides that it gave us a successful Facebook campaign’, says Gaby Dijkstra, spokesman of the EUGames 2014. Via Facebook, Twitter and Instagram you can follow the event by using hashtags #eugames2014 #bringiton and #roadtorotterdam.
The Generation Games, powered by the EUGames 2014, were held as one of the events celebrating the centennial anniversary of the Erasmus University Rotterdam and in cooperation with Erasmus Sport, and were opened by Roffa. The Generation Games is an intergenerational event making connections between people of all ages through sport.
Tournament director Henk Smit is really positive about the presence of Roffa during the Generation Games. ‘It is a good chance to introduce Roffa with the people of Rotterdam and to give all the kids the opportunity to take a picture with the mascot, as a memory of the Generation Games. We really hope that all the people here, are also coming to the EUGames 2014 this summer!’
From 24th of July till the 8th of August Rotterdam will be focused on the EUGames 2014. For this unique event we are looking for people that would like to be part of the biggest student sport event from Europe. There is still an opportunity to join as volunteers; go to the website www.eugames2014.eu to find out more about this opportunity and to get an insight of the event!
