Discussions in masterclass

The masterclass on Elite Sports & Education was organised today, highlighting the dual careers of top athletes and their studies. The event was moderated by Mr Cees Vervoorn from Erasmus Topsport, being the professor of Elite Sport and Education and former Olympic swimmer. The panel speakers included the Rector Magnificus of the Erasmus University Rotterdam himself, Prof. Dr. Huibert A.P. Pols, Ms Deborah Gravenstijn, Olympic judoka medallist and Mr Joerg Foerster, expert in dual careers as being involved at university and national and international organisations, including EUSA, EAS, ENAS, DSOB and ADH.

The discussions opened some issues the athletes who are also pursuing their academic careers are facing, and also what the athletes, the sports organisations, universities and other stakeholders can or should do to in order to be able to successfully combine both fields and how this can be beneficial to all parties involved. The series of these free-for-everyone masterclasses will conclude tomorrow with the topic of sports and new media.

Also a video highlight from the competitions in the remaining sports has been prepared – be sure to check it out!
