Presidential meeting EUSA-AUSF

The President of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) Mr Alberto Gualtieri and the Secretary General of EUSA Mr Matjaz Pecovnik visited Beijing, PR China, to meet with the President of Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF) Mr Xinsheng Zhang.

The meeting was held at the Ministry of Education of the People's Republic of China on August 8, 2010. Mr Yanqing Xue, AUSF Vice Secretary General, Mr Zhen Shen, AUSF Deputy Director and Mrs Yuetong Yan, AUSF General Coordinator also participated in the meeting.

During the meeting, EUSA representatives presented the structure and activities of EUSA, in particularly the involvement of students in the work of the Student Commission, organisation of the Volunteer Program and EUSA Convention.

The President of the Asian University Sports Federation (AUSF), which was established in 1992 and today counts 32 member federations, stressed that EUSA is the leading continental federation in university sport and thanked its President Gualtieri for his contribution in the development of the university sports movement. He mentioned that AUSF also started to organise championships among Asian Universities. In 2010 championships in Taekwondo, Table Tennis, Football and Basketball will be held in this continent.

The participants agreed to explore the future mutual cooperation between the two continental federations. The federations will actively cooperate in the fields of sport, cultural exchange and transfer of knowledge. It was agreed that the 1st Intercontinental Universities Cup in Basketball will be organised in 2012 with participation of the best universities from each continent. The official Agreement on Cooperation between the two federations will be signed in the next months.

Mr Zhang and Mr Gualtieri also discussed the contribution of the continental federations to the international university activities and exchanged their ideas on the future development of the university sport worldwide. Mr Zhang invited EUSA to be present on the AUSF General Assembly to be held in Shenzhen on September 23, 2010. EUSA President thanked Mr Zhang for the invitation and especially for his devotion to continue the development and promotion of university sport in Asia and worldwide. He also invited the AUSF representatives to the EUSA Convention to be held on November 13, 2010 in Bled, Slovenia.
