Portuguese University Championships 2013 in Individual Sports
From 5 to May 12, more than 750 participants attended the European City of Sport - Guimarães for the Portuguese University Championships 2013 in Individual Sports.
The event, organized by University of Minho Student’s Union, was held in 12 sports: Chess, Kickboxing, Karate, Korfball, Table Tennis, Tennis, Squash, Snooker, Outdoor Archery, Taekwondo, Footvolley and Athletics.
One of the most participated championships was Athletics, with 170 university students. With emphasis on the participation of Carla Salomé Rocha, World University Vice-champion in Cross Country in 2012, and Sónia Tavares, Bronze Medal (100 m) at the Belgrade Universiade in 2009, that had also participated on Shenzhen 2011. Both athletes won the gold medal on the Portuguese University Championship, respectively, 3000 meters steeplechase and 100 meters.
Taekwondo is one of the sports with the highest popularity in University of Minho. The same institution won 26 medals among their athletes and won the teams title.
After the Individual Sports 2013 ended, FADU returned to the region of Minho for the debut of two sports, Water Polo and Canoeing. The organization was also University of Minho Student’s Union with the support from the University of Minho.
