Polish University Sports Gala held online
The annual Polish University Sports Gala was held virtually on December 15, acknowledging the achievements of both individuals and organisations in Polish University Sport.
Despite the difficult year for the sport community, over 70 events within the Polish University Sport Championship took place in more than 30 disciplines. During the Gala, Rectors of the universities leading in the general classification received awards. The Gdansk University of Technology was handed the title, with last year’s winner the University of Warsaw in second and the Silesian University of Technology taking third place.
During the Gala, World University Championships medalists were recognised, even though only two events took place: Speed Skating in the Netherlands and Mind Sports held online and organised by AZS from Kazimierz Wielki University in Bydgoszcz, Poland, with Polish students winning six medals at the World University Championships this year.
Considering the wide spectrum of work done by the university sport clubs in Poland, a series of various awards were given. The best local university sport clubs in the general Youth Sport Classification were recognised, AZS leaders were awarded and a special Fair Play award was given to the Medical University of Lodz and the Maria Curie-Skłodowska University from Lublin.
Moreover, AZS’s project for students with disabilities was recognised with a special thanks to individuals responsible in the universities for the popularization of the Integrative Championships organized by AZS. The recent success of receiving a European Commission #BeInclusive Award was also acknowledged.
The significant role of the institutions supporting AZS throughout the year was also highlighted – especially the Ministry of Sport, Ministry of Science and Higher Education as well as the Main Sponsor – LOTOS Group S.A.
