Polish University Sports Association annual Gala 2015

During the University Sports Gala in October, members of the Polish University Sport Association (AZS) opened a new academic sport season 2015/2016. The official opening took place in the city of Lodz and it presented a summary of the academic year 2014/2015.

Many special guests were present at the Gala, among them: rectors of the universities, trainers, medallists of the Universiades, World and European University Championships, activists of the AZS and officials , including the AZS President Mr Marek Rocki and Secretary General Mr Bartłomiej Korpak. They honoured and awarded the best universities participating in the Polish University Championships, sport competitions for Polish students in 43 sports.

Awards presented at the Gala

Finally 160 universities were classified and the best in the overall classification was the University of Science and Technology in Krakow. Representatives of the winning university were awarded with medals, diplomas and cups. On the second place was Warsaw University followed by the University of Technology in Gdansk. First time in the history the winner of the Polish University Championships was ahead of second ranked university by only one point.

During the Gala officials awarded also other persons and institutions who act with successes for academic sport. Medallists of the Universiades and World University Championships, received diplomas, congratulations from the Polish Ministry of Sport and Tourism and from the Ministry of Science and Higher Education.

It was also the chance to thank the Polish organizers for their engagement in a successful preparation and organization of the European Universities Championships in Bridge, Badminton, Climbing, Tennis and Futsal. A special award went to the Academy of Physical Education in Katowice and University of Warsaw, which had the most Universiade and European Universities Championship student medallists.

The event on October 23 was preceded by a conference on the student sport activity. After the awarding ceremonies Polish pianist Waldemar Malicki gave a piano concert for the guests.
