Polish-Ukrainian Sports Festival

Ukrainian volleyball players won golden and silver medals during the Polish-Ukrainian University Volleyball Festival concluded last week in Lviv, Ukraine. Polish teams were content with bronze.

Festival has 7 year-long tradition. Every year Festival takes place in a different Ukrainian or Polish city. Recent years competitors played in Tarnopol, Luck, Odessa (Ukraine) and Zamosc, Jaroslaw, Krosno (Poland). Traditionally, each country was represented by four women and four men teams.

The Festival officially started on the square in Lviv. During the ceremony spoke representatives of the Sport's Students Union of Ukraine and authorities from the University Sport Association of Poland: Marian Dymalski, who is also a FISU member, and Bartlomiej Korpak, secretary general of AZS were present. A great show with acrobatic performance among others, concert of a military band and Ukrainian pop star, was prepared for players and guests.

Results of men’s matches confirmed that participation in Festival was taken very seriously by Ukrainian men teams. Some players play in the Ukrainian league, so they raised a level of the games and didn’t let Polish teams to reach the top. Finally the best men’s group was Pedagogical University of Chernihiv and University of Water Management in Rivne. Third place for Poles – University of Technology in Opole.

 

Men competition

Ukrainian ladies also didn’t give Polish players any chance to win. Golden medal stayed in Ukraine, went to Lutsk to the National University of Volyn. Silver took representatives of University of Economics from Termopil and bronze – ladies from Ostrowiec Swietokrzyski, Poland.

 

Women competition

Poland will organize the Festival next year.
