Polish President meets best university athletes

The President of Poland Mr Andrzej Duda held a special reception on November 15 for the most successful university sport athletes - the medallists of the 2017 Winter and Summer Universiades.

Besides the medallists and university rectors, the meeting was also attended by the Minister of Family, Labour and Social Politics Ms Elzbieta Rafalska, Vice-Minister of Sport and Tourism Mr Jan Widera, President of Polish Student Sport Association (AZS) Mr Alojzy Nowak; Vice-President of the Inmternational University Sport Federation (FISU) Mr Marian Dymalski amd President of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) Mr Adam Roczek.

The President of Poland congratulated the medallists, presenting them special diplomas. Mr Duda also mentioned that he himself had been a member of AZS for years and had taken part in skiing competitions.

The medallists were also congratulated by AZS President Mr Nowak, who also appreciated the rectors of universities, promoting university sport. AZS President underlined that during the latest Summer Universiade in Taipei a student from AZS Wroclaw Joanna Linkiewicz brought the 500th medal for the Polish team in the history of its participation in Universiades.

During the reception in the Presidential Palace, the 4-time gold medallist in hammer throw Mr Pawel Fajdek and a gold medallist in snowboard Ms Weronika Biela thanked the President of Poland for the invitation and support on behalf of all athletes, giving them a special present.
