Polish 1st Year Students' Games

In November the Polish universities organized a competition for freshmen students. The Games are dedicated especially for them – Students of the First Years Championships. This year, the games were held in seven cities: Gdansk, Poznan, Warszawa, Katowice, Krakow and Lublin. In each city students rivalled to get right to start in the finals, organized by the Polish University Sports Association in Gdansk.


The Games gathered hundreds of participants. After all, in this kind of games young people may start only once in their life! Students competed in seven disciplines: cross country, basketball, volleyball, table tennis, futsal, swimming as well as ergometers.

Basketball


The best athletes put up teams from Poznan and Gdansk, which obtained 62 points each after all competitions. The biggest cup of the games finally went to the host of the Final – Gdansk, who noted more triumphs in particular disciplines. Students from this beautiful city on the north of Poland won competitions in table tennis, women’s volleyball and men’s swimming.

Team from Poznan achieved victory in only one discipline less than Gdansk – men’s volleyball and basketball, as well as in women’s ergometer. Poznan students noted six second places in particular disciplines, which brought them second place in whole games.

Ladies from Warsaw were the best in cross country and basketball competitions. Their friends from a team triumphed in cross country, which in combination gave Warsaw third place on podium.

II Final of the Games for First Year Students was not only a sport event. To integrate student environment from whole country, also a cultural programme was prepared by the hosts.
