Pilot events of the European Week of Winter Sport coming up
European Week of Winter Sport (EWWS), a project initiative, supported by the European Union, will soon see its inaugural edition, with first pilot events being organised across Europe between February 1 and 8, 2025.
The European Week of Winter Sport project is a comprehensive initiative dedicated to celebrating the thrill of winter sports while advancing sustainability practices across Europe. By uniting diverse stakeholders, including sports organizations, universities, and local authorities, the project creates a dynamic platform to showcase the excitement and benefits of engaging in winter activities.
Project partners met today for an online meeting, finalising the preparations for the pilot winter sport events. These are actually open for anyone to carry them out – ideally in the period of February 1 to 8, also noting the sustainability aspects.
The priority that the project addresses the most is Encouraging healthy lifestyles for all, with a focus on promoting physical activity in winter and using sport as a tool for health. Partners aim to promote the initiative, make winter sports more accessible and inclusive, while also raising awareness about climate change and sustainability of winter sports.
European University Sports Association (EUSA) is hosting an online webinar related to the European Week of Winter Sport and university sport winter events on Thursday, February 6 at 1 PM CET. Register now and join us online!
We invite sports organisations, universities and educational institutions, local authorities, sports centers and others to join us in the initiative, register and carry out a winter event in this period! The activities can be very tailored to your communities, and can range from winter outdoor activities on snow and ice, or other activities (also indoor) that you can directly associate with winter. Please register your events so we can showcase the growing community and diversity of events!
Individuals are also invited to join – either as event organisers, direct participants, or also by taking part in the campaign contests! Everyone can showcase their creativity and commitment to protecting the environment within two exciting categories, having a change to win:
- Top 5 Best Promotional Videos – Create a short, captivating video that highlights sustainable winter sports, local tourism, or community involvement. Share your vision with the world!
- Top 5 Best Sustainable Solutions – Present your innovative solutions to environmental challenges in winter sports. Whether it’s a new eco-friendly practice or a creative adaptation, let’s push for a greener future.
Winners will gain visibility across our platforms, receive awards, and help promote sustainable winter sports across Europe.
