Peace and Sport forum 2012
The Peace and Sport International Forum is a summit meeting that unites major players in the peace movement. Bringing together the highest international authorities, this annual event aims to increase the use of sport in peace-building and peace-keeping processes on all five continents.
Annual Peace and Sport International Forum is organized by Peace and Sport placed under the High Patronage of H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco and founded by Modern Pentathlon Olympic medallist and World Champion Joel Bouzou, who is the current President of the Organization. The mission of Peace and Sport is to raise awareness and help leaders to make peace through sport a reality. After five years of being held in the Principality of Monaco, the Peace and Sport International Forum 2012 was held in Sochi, Russia – host city for the 2014 Winter Olympic and Paralympic Games. The future Olympic city is located at the crossroads of Europe, Asia and the Middle East being a perfect platform to address the broadest and most international audiences. Participants and guests from 90 countries attended the Forum 2012 in Sochi.
The Opening Ceremony was held on Wednesday, October 31st in Grand Hotel Polyana, Sochi, Russia. The Ceremony was attended by Dr Gjorge Ivanov, President of the Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia; Mr Joel Bouzou, President and Founder of Peace and Sport Organization; H.S.H. Prince Albert II of Monaco; Mr Dmitry Kozak Deputy Prime Minister of the Russian Federation; Mr Yury Trutnev Aid to the President of the Russian Federation; Mr Vitaly Mutko Minister of Sport of the Russian Federation; Mr Alexander Zhukov; President of the Russian Olympic Committee; Ms. Elena Isinbaeva World Champion, Pole-vault Champion for Peace.
In the framework of the Peace and Sport International Forum, EUSA Vice-president, RSSU President Oleg Matytsin took part in the Russian International Olympic University Workshop “Keep the flame burning” dedicated to the discussion of the role of major international events as important catalyst and platform to advance the sustainable development path of a city or a region as well these events abilities to contribute to peace development and international cooperation.
Mr Oleg Matytsin presented the EUSA activities including major university sports project - European Universities Games and FISU Internaitonal Educational Center, addressed the contribution of the European and international university sports movement to the peace building process through promotion of sports values and encouraging friendship, fair-play, integrity, cooperation, bringing together the different communities.
Mr Oleg Matysin also had a meeting with Peace and Sport founder and current President Mr Joel Bouzou.
