Opportunity for young journalists

If you are a young reporter or are training to be a journalist and seek international experience at a major sports event, you might be interested in the Young Reporter’s Seminar, organised by the International University Sports Federation (FISU) and International Sports Press Association (AISP), in cooperation with the organisers of the 27th Summer Universiade Kazan 2013.

In 2011, the first edition of the FISU/AIPS Young Reporters’ Program at the 26th Summer Universiade in Shenzhen, China was a genuine success, so 12 young sport journalists from the five continents will be again offered a possibility to attend the Games in Kazan alongside the athletes where they will receive specialized media training.

The Program aims to include 19 to 25-year-old students or recent graduates in sports journalism from the five continents of Africa (2), America (4), Asia (2), Oceania (2) and Europe (2) right into the middle of the Games for 14 days, with full access to the competition venues and MPC. The programme will last between July 6 and 17 and will be free of charge to the selected candidates. FISU will cover the cost of travel from the candidate’s home to Kazan and back, while the Kazan OC will provide accommodation and meals.

The Young Reporters will undertake both general and specialized training in various aspects of sports reporting and the coverage of major events such as the Universiade. Among other topics, the course will look at what makes a good sports story, how to tell it informatively and entertainingly, when to look for more background detail and why accuracy and fairness still remain the cornerstone of sports reporting.

Individuals interested in applying are asked to submit in English:

• Current and detailed CV with date of birth and photo with covering letter;

• Two letters of reference from academic or professional contacts;

• A brief paper (500 words) on “What does University Sport means to me?”

Applications will be accepted until March 15th, 2013. Applications reaching FISU after the deadline or incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration. All applications should be sent to media@fisu.net in pdf format.
