On October 3 2024, representatives of the European University Sports Association (EUSA) met online with EUSA Technical Delegates in a meeting focused on the Preparation of the approaching EUSA Convention 2024 held in Salerno, Italy from October 10 to 13, 2024.
The online meeting saw around 20 participants, representing the TDs of EUSA Technical Commission, and included EUSA Sports department consisting of Technical Commission Secretary and Sports Manager Mr Miha Zvan, Events Manager Mr Liam Smith and Sports Coordinator Ms Eszter Gulyas.
The Preparation Meeting revolved around the role of EUSA Technical Delegate, the expectations of the imminent EUSA Convention, and the road to next summer's European Universities Championships 2025 with their Inspection Visits, organization and development, and their correct implementation and conduct following EUSA Rules and Regulations.
The online afternoon session started with a short welcome by EUSA staff and a self-introduction of the new EUSA TD to their colleagues, even if all of them were already involved in last summer's European Universities Games 2024 two-cities event in Debrecen-Miskolc. A recap of 2025 events calendar was then presented, with highlights on deadlines, important milestones and logistic issues that might occur on the road to next year.
Then it was the turn of the first main topic of the meeting, with a presentation by EUSA Futsal TD Mr Tomasz Aftanski about the role of Technical Delegates in EUSA events. Mr Aftanski showcased some lessons learned and past experiences, underlining the importance of relationships, a decision-making approach, timely preparation, a problem-solving attitude and how to forge a functional team.
This part of the meeting was then concluded by a short presentation of the role of the Results System team, made by EUSA partner Furki Sport representative Mr Marin Furcic.
Mr Smith led the next part of the meeting which focused on the agenda for the convention, and the expected outcomes of each session, underlining that the Convention is one of only a few times Technical Delegates will be meeting in person with the EUC2025 organisers. Mr Zvan followed by discussing the upcoming EUC2025 Inspection Visits, which will be a crucial milestone for achieving success in next year's events. Next, it was the turn of Ms Gulyas to present the expected timeline of 2025 in preparation for the championships, including topics such as progress reports, communication channels and promotion of the event.
The online meeting then concluded with a short Q&A session.
