Today, December 10, is International Human Rights Day, as EUSA commemorates the day as well as the 70^th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights.

International Human Rights Day has been commemorated on December 10 since 1948, when the United Nations General Assembly adopted the Universal Declaration of Human Rights, a historic document that proclaims the basic human rights to which everyone is entitled, regardless of race, colour, religion, sex, language, political or other opinion, national or social origin, property, birth or other status.

The global theme for this year’s Human Rights Day celebrations relate to the COVID-19 pandemic and the need to re-build with Human Rights central to all recovery efforts.

EUSA constantly strives to promote and protect all human rights through several projects and initiatives conducted by the federation, alongside various partner organisations.

EUSA embraces diversity, focusing on social responsibility topics such as safeguarding, equal opportunities and inclusion, while also running a development programme to support member organisations to be active in European activities.



Since 2017, EUSA has been an official member of the Council of Europe, the continent’s leading human rights organisation. This year’s International Human Rights Day is especially poignant considering the Council of Europe is celebrating the 70th anniversary of the European Convention on Human Rights, one of the most important international treaties and the cornerstone of all activities the Council is involved in.
