NUSAs get updates on next EUSA events in online webinar
On June 27, 2024, the European University Sports Association hosted an online NUSA Coordination Webinar, in which all upcoming official events between now and the end of the year were presented.
The webinar saw around 60 participants from 24 countries, representing different National University Sports Associations (NUSAs) all over Europe. The main objective of the webinar was to provide NUSAs with essential information to help them prepare and plan for the second part of the year.
EUSA Secretary General, Mr. Matjaz Pecovnik, kicked things off with some opening remarks. Then, EUSA's President, Mr. Adam Roczek, took the floor to welcome everyone. He thanked the participants and offered a quick rundown of upcoming EUSA events. Mr. Roczek expressed his enthusiasm for holding regular NUSA meetings, highlighting their importance for EUSA event organizers. He also provided an overview of other major sporting events happening this year, explaining how EUSA events, particularly the upcoming European Universities Games in Debrecen-Miskolc, Hungary, will tie in and create a fantastic sporting summer.
The main presentation was delivered by Mr Pecovnik, who presented the Activity Report from the Executive Committee held in April in Aveiro, Portugal, where the 100th Associated Members milestone was announced, the 2027 European Universities Championships season was attributed, the first EUC Powerlifting in 2027 was announced, and most importantly the next two editions of the European Universities Games were attributed - to Split, Croatia for 2028 and Granada, Spain for 2030.
NUSA representatives also received reports about the approaching of this July's EUG in Hungary, underlying the constant and fruitful communication with NUSAs and participating Universities, the central role of the weekly meeting with the Organising Committee, together with all the important on-site meetings, supervision and inspection visits occurred in the past months.
The official numbers of this Games' edition were also shared: the participants will be more than 4700, with 36 countries and 414 universities being represented in Debrecen-Miskolc!
The second part of the presentation saw the presentation of the next edition of the European Universities Rowing Championship, which will be held in Zagreb, Croatia on August 28-31, 2024. EUSA Secretary General thanked the Croatian Academic Sports Federation for stepping in as co-organisers, after the cancellation of the event first attributed to Ankara, Türkiye, emphasising the attractiveness of Lake Jarun as the location for the event and reminding all the attendees about the registration deadline set for July 17.
Next, the registration opening for EUSA-FISU Seminar and EUSA Convention was announced. The joint event will be held in Salerno, Italy on October 10-13, 2024. The draft programme of the event was presented, together with a presentation of the venues and an overview of all the logistic information. Mr Pecovnik remarked how the Convention is intended for organizers of the European Universities Championships 2025 and EUSA Technical Delegates, while the Seminar is intended for Secretaries General and administrators of the national university sports federations.
The webinar concluded with the presentation of the last event of the year: the EUSA Conference and 25th Anniversary Gala. The event will take place in Palace Liechteinstein (Gala dinner) and the University of Vienna (Conference) in Vienna, Austria - since EUSA itself was founded there in 1999, and the city embodies the organization's history, making it the perfect stage for this momentous occasion. The marvellous locations were displayed and the planned programme was presented.
