November 17 - International Students’ Day

On International Students’ Day, the European University Sports Association (EUSA) and its Student Commission recognise the power of sport and the impacts it can make in a students’ lives now and in the future.

The three pillars of this year’s International Students’ Day are the freedom of movement, the freedom to study and the freedom to live in dignity. EUSA supports the European Students’ Union (ESU), Organising Bureau of European School Student Unions (OBESSU) and other organisations in the pursuit of these goals on November 17th.

ESU Promoting the International Students' Day

It is widely recognised that sport contributes to students’ wellbeing both mentally and physically. The ideals of the three pillars of movement, study and dignity are all complimented by sport. Sport facilitates movement and widely promotes cultural cohesion. Sport is a universal language translating through boundaries; opening up the opportunity for equal conversations in a variety of subjects without prejudice.

EUSA and its university sport events

Sport aims to provide access to maintaining a healthy lifestyle without discrimination or prejudice and is improving student lives personally, educationally and socially. Therefore sport is increasingly being recognised as something that is essential to education and the co-curricular environment.

Fair Play in an important EUSA value in sport

International Students’ Day is about promoting the freedom of movement, the freedom to study and the freedom to live in dignity. We support these aims and believe that these and more can be accomplished with the use of sport as a tool to enable conversation and action in these areas. Sport has the power to achieve what many other campaigns can only hope to touch and we will use our voice as students to provide better education to all students.
