New sports to start in Rotterdam

The beginning of the last week in July brought some changes also to Rotterdam, the host city of the European Universities Games 2014. Apart of the change of weather, also the composition of the participants is slightly changing these days. Most of the teams which participated in Table Tennis departed today, with teams that will take part in Rugby 7’s and Rowing arriving and will start with the competitions shortly.

Handball competitions

Competitions in handball and futsal saw the semi-final matches today, with finals coming up tomorrow. Stay tuned to see who will bring home the Champions’ title! If you are in Rotterdam or vicinity, you are welcome to cheer for your favourites and take advantage of free entrance. Youth and employability in and through sports

Today’s masterclass on youth employability in and through sport closed the first series of the educational events in the first part of the Games. The theme and the speakers were presented by Ms Magdalena Wolowiec, EUSA Student Commission member. Panellists were Mr Jakob (Jaka) Bassanese from Slovenia, the President of the Student Club Association of Slovenia; Mr Paolo Emilio Adami from Italy, Vice-President of ENGSO Youth and Mr Valentin Dupouey from France, currently working for the International Sport and Culture Association (ISCA).

Panel discussions

They presented some data and actions taken towards developing and recognising skills gained through sports participation, emphasising the needs of active involvement of young people in increasing employability options, and the improvement of cooperation of the sports and business sector. The project Sport Employs YOUrope, EU Youth in Action funded initiative on youth employability in sport, carried out by ENGSO Youth, EUSA, ISCA and other partnership organisations was presented. Participants and others were invited to take part in the survey and register for the seminar on the topic which will be held in October in Rome, Italy.
