New FADU board officially begin their tenure
New FADU President Mr Andre Reis was involved in his first official act since being elected as the president of the Portugal University Sports Federation for 2019/2021 last week, giving his first speech at a ceremony held at the Portuguese National Stadium on October 8.
In his speech, Mr Reis spoke about the intention to monitor the application of the student-athlete statute which was approved this year, the effective implementation of sport for all, the collaboration with the national sports federations and international structures and the need for more competitiveness in all sports events.
Present at the ceremony were the secretary of State for Youth and Sport Mr João Paulo Rebelo, and outgoing president of FADU Mr Daniel Monteiro, who said, “I have to thank the teams who worked with me for the last two mandates and I am sure that when Mr Andre Reis leaves, I will have the same compliments to make about his team’s work.”
At the iconic Honour Tribune of the National Stadium of Jamor, two hundred people attended this ceremony including national sports and higher education representatives, leaders and presidents of sports federations, clubs, academic associations and student’s union, national government bodies, local authorities and partners.
The new Executive Board, led by Mr Reis, has nine members. The other governing bodies that took office at the start of the month are the General Assembly, Audit, Disciplinary and Justice Board. The mandate of the governing bodies is two years (2019-2021), coinciding with the period of a Universiade.
