The newly elected European Commission under its President Mr Jean-Claude Juncker officially started their 5-year mandate today. The Commission is composed of the College of Commissioners of 28 members, including the President and Vice-Presidents.

The Commissioners, one from each EU country, are the Commission's political leadership during a 5-year term. Each Commissioner is assigned responsibility for specific policy areas.



Sport has been directly included in the official title of commissioner's portfolio for the first time; Hungarian Tibor Navracsics is the new Commissioner for Education, Culture, Youth and Sport. The field of sport has been put onto strategic priorities in the EU, also demonstrated through the Erasmus+ programme and funding opportunities.
